Former Toronto Blue Jays, New York Mets slugger Daniel Vogelbach retires and joins the Pitsburgh Pirates as a special assistant to the hitting department.

What a difference a year makes. When Ross Atkins struck out on Shohei Ohtani last season amongst others he tried to supplement the numbers with Kevin Kiermaier on the defensive end and signing Daniel Vogelbach offensively.
The 31-year-old designated hitter slashed .186/.278/.300 with one home run in 31 games for the Blue Jays last season.
After being designated for assignment in June of 2024, Daniel Vogelbach cleared waivers and was released by the Blue Jays.
The Jays were charged with paying the rest of Vogelbach's $2 million
Blue Jays manager John Schneider had this to say about Vogelbach's time in Toronto.
"Just want to point out, thanking Vogey for everything he did," Schneider said after the move was announced. "Obviously it was a tough runway for him playing-time-wise... But just wanted to say how well-liked he was in here, and he just went about things the right way."

Vogelbach has now officially retired and has been hired by the Pitsburgh Pirates (a team he once played for) as a special hitting assistant.
Vogelbach, now 32, was with the Pirates for part of the 2022 season before he was shipped to the Mets at the trade deadline that year.
After landing in New York, Vogelbach finished the 2022 season hitting 241/.359/.415 with 19 home runs and 73 RBI.
He re-signed with the team in 2023 and hit .233 with a .742 OPS, 13 home runs and 48 RBI. The Mets non-tendered him after that season.
The nine-year veteran has also spent time with the Seattle Mariners, Milwaukee Brewers and Toronto Blue Jays. He was an All-Star selection in 2019 with Seattle.
Originally a second-round pick of the Chicago Cubs, Vogelbach has a career 219/.340/.405 slash line with 81 home runs and 286 RBI.
Good luck to Daniel Vogelbach in his fresh start as an assistant to the Pirates hitting department.
