Blue Jays' manager John Schneider gave some injury updates in his first Spring Training presser with the media this morning.
Speaking with Sportsnets' Shi Davidi Schneider said that,
"Daulton Varsho (shoulder surgery) is hitting, throwing to 90 feet. We are operating as if he'll miss time but «we're not putting anything past him.»
"Will Wagner (knee surgery) is doing everything and will see time at third and first this spring.
Nice to see Will Wagner working out with Don Mattingly at first base
It Reminds me of when Mattingly taught the position to Spencer Horwitz a Spring Training ago when they needed his bat in the lineup..
I mean who better to learn from than a nine-time consecutive gold glove winner at the position.
Prior to his injury in September Wagner debuted with a three-hit game, a week later had a five-hit game and finished 2024 with a solid slash line of .305/.337/.451 with two homers and 11 RBIs through 24 games.
The Blue Jays manager also said that Bo Bichette's (finger) is also full go Pin removed long ago and feels normal, he said.
«Bo looks like Bo, which is really, really refreshing,» said Schneider. «We kind of operated without one of best bats last year in Bo. So having him back is going to be big.»
On health front, Erik Swanson experienced forearm fatigue in Jan and is «going to be a little bit behind.» He's throwing at 120 feet, still may be ready for opening day.
