Could Vladimir Guerrero Jr. end up as New York Met? It was scenario hypothesized by a group of MLB Insiders including Keegan Matheson, Mark Feinsand, Anthony DiComo and Bryan Hoch.

The free agent market for 1st basemen won't be nearly as robust next year as it was this season. So while 29 other will hypothetically be vying for Guerrero's services, not all needs are created equal.
The Blue Jays will be in it of course, and there is hope that Guerrero goes the Aaron Judge route in testing out free agency before choosing to stay with the only team he's known. But the waters are a lot murkier now.
The Yankees have been bandied about as a possible destination. The Bronx Bombers struggled to get much production out of the position last year and while they just signed Paul Goldschmidt, he is 37 and on a one year deal.
Earlier in his career, Guerrero seemed disinclined to play for New York, partially due to their uniform policy. But Vladdy is now 25 and the dreadlocks are gone. Anything could happen.
Or Vladdy could end up in Queens. While Pete Alonso recently opted to stay with the Mets on a three-year contract, the consensus is that he is likely to opt-out after 2025. Steve Cohen has the money and guts to pry Vladdy away from Canada.
Throughout all of this, Guerrero has said he wants to be a Blue Jay. He re-iterated that during his press conference yesterday. But he also understands that it is a business and now every other team is involved.
A lot of it depends both on Vladdy's season and his asking price. Contracts have soared astronomically recently but Guerrero is also not Juan Soto or Shohei Ohtani. First baseman also generally don't garner that type of money.
This will be a season-long conversation without any clear direction.
Strap in.
