If the Blue Jays' brain trust is smarter than us, why doesn't it feel like it?

In his recent piece for the Globe and Mail, reporter Rob Longley wrote that the Blue Jays front office is brainier than the rest of us and aren't afraid to show.
And while that's true, perception is everything and problems arise when intelligence doesn't breed results.
The Jays management group are brainier than the rest of us and aren't afraid to articulate that sentiment. The difficulty, of course, is that when results don't follow all that apparent wisdom, what does it matter? - Rob Longley
Smarts and intelligence will take a person far in life, but overly-smart people can overthink and get into their own heads.
Also, in this day-and-age, smarts doesn't just mean IQ. There's emotional intelligence, social intelligence, and a variety of other metrics.
This is not for lack of trying on the
Blue Jays part. But their reticent attitude combined with an almost impenetrable resoluteness in sticking to their valuations, comes across so blatantly brazen that it has a whiff of a screw you mentality.
Did the team want to extend
Guerrero? Of course it did. But it also had its own valuation and stuck resolutely to it without caring what both the fans and Guerrero think. Is there a price to be paid for that brazenness? We're about to find out.
At the same time, If
Vlad's asking price started with anything above a five, then perhaps Atkins and Shapiro were wise not to close the deal.
Sometimes intelligence is not doing something.
The 2025 season will have a cloud hanging over it. It will get dark and ugly at times. Things get could better or it could a spectacular failure.
It's the price to by for being too smart.
