The Toronto Blue Jays released an injury update in regards to pitcher Erik Swanson and the news wasn't great. Swanson has been sidelined since the beginning of Spring Training due to elbow troubles.

Now, the Blue Jaysreliever is set to undergo an MRI and will likely start the season on the injured list.
Arden Zwelling was the first to report the news.
Swanson felt some discomfort following a bullpen session earlier in the week and is now being shut down.
It's a significant blow to the Blue Jays bullpen, where Swanson figured to be a late-inning set-up guy alongside Yimi Garcia and Chad Green, bridging the gap to closer Jeff Hoffman.
While no doubt a blow to the Blue Jays relief corps, Swanson's injury opens up a chance for one of pitchers on the cusp to make the opening day roster. This list includes Mason Fluharty, Kevin Gowdy, Richard Lovelady, Tommy Nance, Zach Pop, and Josh Walker.
While Swanson's exact timeline is unknown at this point, given that he isn't throwing at this point, it's safe to assume that he will at least be sidelined for the first couple of weeks of the regular season.
However, elbow injuries are notoriously difficult to predict - as the Blue Jays saw firsthand with Jordan Romano last year - and it's possible that Swanson could be out for months.
Depending on how the Blue Jays decide to structure their late innings, look for Swanson's role to be filled by Brendon Little and Nick Sandlin, who are both tough on lefties.
