This would seemingly eliminate the Blue Jays from contention.
It would also appear to close the door on a reunion with the Houston Astros.
That the Blue Jays are out of it, isn't really that surprising. Bregman had been seeking a six or seven year deal, while the Blue Jays were hesitant to go above three.
The fact that the Red Sox are still in play is surprising, given that both neither Bregman nor Rafael Devers indicated a willingness to move off third base.
The Tigers seem like the most likely destination, while the Cubs could pivot to a Justin Turner type of player.
There are positives for the Blue Jays not signing Bregman though. With the third baseman no longer in play, they can devote all their attention (and perhaps more money) to a contract extension for Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
With Bregman's elimination of the Blue Jays, Ernie Clement will now take over everyday third base duties, though if he struggles players like Guerrero, Leo Jimenez and Will Wagner could see some time at the hot corner.
It is possible that Bregman remains unsigned once the season starts.
