Toronto Blue Jays General Manager Ross Atkins spoke to the media today ahead of Spring Trading on Thursday about the Vladimir Guerrero Jr deadline, talks and more.
The boys of summer are back.
The Toronto Blue Jays officially kicked off the 2025 season on Thursday morning as pitchers and catchers reported to the team's Player Development Complex in Dunedin, Fla.
With that Blue Jays General manager Ross Atkins spoke to members of the media about how the talks are going with Vladimir Guerrero Jr's camp and had this to say:
«We've worked extremely hard on keeping Vlad here for a long time. That desire is strong and we will continue to do that.»
Atkins was hesitant to get into any level of detail about Vladdy, but did address the fast-approaching deadline:
«We will be very respectful of Vlad and his desire to have that. We understand and respect it, but we will never close that door.»
Blue Jays correspondent Hazel Mae asked id Atkins had been in daily contact with Vladdy's camp re: negotiations...
«Anything I share decreases the likelihood of us getting something done, which is our goal. I can say that we have worked very hard, and has Barry (Praver), to find a way, if there is one.»
Speaking to Sportsnets' Shi Davidi on discussions with Guerrero Atkins said:
«We have worked exceptionally hard to find a way to keep him here for an extended period beyond this year. And we'll continue to do that.»

Ross Atkins said again today that any further additions are likelier to come via trade.
