Although Alan Roden grew up a massive fan of the Milwaukee Brewers, he never thought professional baseball was on the cards for him.

The son of two scientists, the product of Creighton University studied his first love - astrophysics - and even got a grant from NASA to study quasars, which are super mass of black holes.
His proposal was even mentioned in a congratulatory post from the space agency.
A) project that will be investigating the accretion mechanism that powers the enormous luminosities of quasars by developing and analyzing simulations of black hole accretion.
.
Sounds like big stuff.
Yet, in his final year, he completed his physics degree but also hit .387 with a .492 OBP and the Blue Jays came calling. Now, he finds himself on the cusp of a major league career.
This spring, he has become close with Daulton Varsho and Kevin Kevin Kiermaier two of the best fielders in the game.
He's a good kid. He does everything right. That's what I think is really tough to find with guys who have had success in the minor leagues: They think they can go their own way. But he's able to come to big-league camp and do what he's done and show what he is as a player. Being able to control his anxiety and adrenaline has been pretty fun to watch. He's going to be really good. - Daulton Varsho

An outfielder with an unconventional batting stance, Roden learned about the importance of game-day routines like reading scouting reports, yet at the same time knows that analytics has it's limits. A numbers and maths guy, he isn't giving up on his space dreams just yet.
I would love to (continue in physics), It's a passion project right now, but absolutely, once I'm done playing, I see no reason why I wouldn't be able to figure out a way to get into it.
.
For now though, he can focus on being a big leaguer.
