Want to buy a piece of Rogers Centre? Now you can!
Have you ever wanted to own pieces of a baseball stadium? Well now you can!!! The Canadian Hall of Fame and Museum is auctioning two original seats from the 500 level of the Blue Jays home stadium.
The Toronto Blue Jays along with Rogers Communications, the team's owner, spent the last two offseason upgrading and renovating Rogers Centre (aka Skydome). The work, which cost hundreds of millions of dollars, saw walls being re-measured, seats being torn out, and new sections being put in.
A representative from the hall told CTV News that the seats were gifted to them directly by the team. The seats are numbered five and six and come with signed letter of authenticity.
The seats, which were recovered from a scrapyard in October of last year, are being auctioned off as part of the Hall of Fame and Museum's annual holiday silent auction, the funds from which will go to preserving the museum and its contents, collection, and programming.
As Scott Crawford, director of the museum stated «The Holiday Silent Auction is one of our most important fundraisers of the year because it provides the much needed funds that allow us to tell the story of Canadian baseball history».
The seats aren't the only mementos available however, as close to 100 items, from the physical to the experiential, are up for grabs until the auction closes on December 9th.
Some other items up for grabs include jerseys signed by Pedro Martinez, Chris Bassitt, Hyung-Jin Ryu, and Jesse Barfield; a zoom call with former player and team Canada coach Ernie Whitt, a visit to the radio booth with Ben Shulman, Buffalo Bisons tickets, and Curling lessons from Scotties champ Sarah Wilkes-Lizmore. Jose Bautista, Fergie Jenkins, and Larry Walker have also signed bats and balls.
Whether or not the seats will actually sell is a different story. Allegedly valued at about $2000, so far the nose-bleed level have fetched just one bid of $900. There is about one week remaining before bidding is closed.

The Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is located in St. Mary's, Ontario and this summer will induct Jimmy Key, Paul Godfrey, Russell Martin and Ashley Stephenson into its ranks.
