Blue Jays analyst opens trade rumors: "What if the leadoff hitter is not in camp yet?"

And now Joe Siddall, longtime Blue Jays analyst and broadcaster, has stirred the pot with another question - what if the leadoff hitter is not yet in camp?

Siddall made the remarks during a guest appearance on the Blair ad Barker show on SportsNet earlier this morning.

His logic makes sense. Earlier this spring, Blue Jays manager John Schneider had said that they will play around with line-up construction. For Siddall, that seems to indicate that George Springer will not be in his traditional spot come opening day.

Bo Bichette has hit lead-off in the past, but if the Blue Jays want to keep him, Vladdy, and Santander together, thereby hitting one, two, and three in this scenario, now they no longer have a viable clean-up hitter.

Andres Gimenez is another name that has been thrown around, as has Will Wagner. Siddall is not necessarily a fan of those options either. Wagner still has rookie status, and may want more seasoning before becoming an everyday leadoff hitter.

While Gimenez has speed and will steal a lot of bases, he has a low OBP and more effective in front of a guy like Alejandro Kirk, who is a prime double play candidate.

Plus, with a crowded infield, and a dearth of fourth and fifth outfield options, the Blue Jays have pieces for a trade. Still, Siddall is quick to point out that the Blue Jays probably won't do this, merely that it is what he would do.

If he had to put money on it, it would be Bichette. But anything is possible.
