Max Scherzer is already making an impact.

A day after signing a one-year contract with the Blue Jays, Mad Max is reportedly working to recruit his former New York Mets teammate, Pete Alonso, to join him in Toronto.
Chris Bassittt, another former Mets teammate of both Scherzer and Alonso during his brief 2022 stint with the team, appeared on the JD Bunkis podcast on Friday. While Bassitt primarily discussed Scherzer's qualities as a pitcher and his impact on the team, he also mentioned that Scherzer has already reached out to Alonso about the possibility of coming to Canada.
While the Blue Jays have less of a need for Alonso than they did for Scherzer, there have been talks between the two sides. To what extent, however, remains unclear. That said, having Scherzer, a respected and influential player, in their corner could be the key to Toronto landing Alonso.
An interesting wrinkle in all of this is that both Scherzer and Alonso are represented by super-agent Scott Boras. Known for securing massive contracts for his clients, Boras has already had multiple discussions with the Blue Jays this year.
It remains to be seen whether this connection-and Scherzer's personal pitch-will be enough to convince Alonso to head north of the border.
