MLB teams can't put players on the 60-day injured list until spring training starts, and Alek Manoah is a prime candidate to hit the list for the Toronto Blue Jays once eligible.

The Homestead, Fla., native finished fourth in the MLB with a 2.24 ERA in 2022, but that number ballooned to 5.87 in 2023 amid struggles with control - his 14.2 per cent walk rate was the third highest in the majors.
The 26-year-old Manoah made just five starts in 2024, going 1-2 with a 3.70 ERA.
He struck out 26 batters in 24.1 innings, just as things were looking up, Manoah experienced a pinching sensation in his right elbow.
It was confirmed that he required surgery on his ulnar collateral ligament and on June 18, 2024, he underwent a hybrid Tommy John procedure, replacing the ligament and anchoring the new one with an internal brace suture.

The 60 day count doesn't start until the first day of the regular season, so Manoah won't be eligible to be back until the end of May at that point.
If and when he's placed on the 60-day IL, it will open up a 40-man roster spot for Toronto, allowing them to make another move to supplement the roster.
For instance they have been connected to free agent first baseman Pete Alonso third baseman Alex Bregman all offseason.
Friend and former Blue Jays teammate of Manoah's, Hyun-jin Ryu, faced a similar return timeline with the same injury in 2022-23.
He suffered the torn ligament on June 2, 2022, underwent a rigorous 14-month rehab, and returned to be an important part of Toronto's pitching staff down the stretch.
When Manoah comes back, he will have to find to regain his spot in the rotation.
The Blue Jays currently have five starters: Kevin Gausman, Chris Bassitt, Jose Berrios, Bowden Francis and Max Scherzer.
