Blue Jays prospect named sleeper pick by Baseball America

While the Blue Jays have just one prospect in Baseball America's Top 100, another outfielder is considered a sleeper hit within the organization: RJ Schreck.
The 24-year-old outfielder from Vanderbilt University was originally selected by the Seattle Mariners in the ninth round of the 2023 draft. He was acquired by the Blue Jays in the trade that sent veteran infielder Justin Turner to the West Coast.
Schreck offers a solid mix of power and speed. He started the year with A+ Everett, was promoted to Double-A Arkansas, and later finished the season with Double-A New Hampshire after the trade to Toronto. Across all levels, he posted a slash line of .251/.388/.462, with 17 home runs, 63 RBIs, and 13 stolen bases.
It took a few years for Schreck to find his swing, but in 2024, he took a big step forward. After posting an .865 OPS with High-A Everett to start the season, Schreck was promoted to Double-A. The Blue Jays acquired him from the Mariners at the 2024 trade deadline. Following the move, Schreck impressed with his plate discipline and power, showcasing a plus hit tool, average power, and the ability to drive the ball to his pull side. The Blue Jays' farm system ranks 24th out of 30 teams. Many of their top prospects have either graduated to the majors, struggled with injuries, or shown inconsistency. However, if Schreck-who is set to start the 2025 season in New Hampshire-can continue his development, he could reach the big leagues sooner than expected.
