The Pittsburgh Pirates have officially signed left-handed pitcher Tim Mayza to a one-year contract, with the deal first announced last week.

Mayza, who will earn $1.15MM in 2025, is set to join the Pirates' major league roster. Beat reporter Alex Stumpf was the first to report the news.
The left-hander spent six and a half seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays, where he became a beloved presence in the clubhouse.
Mayza's best season came in 2023, when he posted a 3-1 record with a 1.52 ERA in 68 appearances, solidifying his role as one of the most trusted arms in Toronto's bullpen.
However, his 2024 campaign didn't go as planned. After a rough start to the year, Mayza struggled to find his form, finishing with an 8.03 ERA in 35 games before being released by the Jays in July.
He later signed with the New York Yankees, where he appeared in 15 games and logged 18 innings to close out the season.
The key detail here is that this is a major league contract. With over five years of service time, Mayza cannot be demoted to the minors without his consent.
He's likely to begin the year in manager Derek Shelton's bullpen as a valuable lefty, joining Joey Wentz.
If he can recapture some of the form he showed in 2023, this signing could prove to be a steal for the Pirates.
Let's hope he sticks around and finds success in Pittsburgh.
