Once upon a time, Miguel Castro was the youngest pitcher ever to appear in a major league game for the Blue Jays. He broke a 38-year old record and held it for approximately two days when teammate Roberto Osuna made his own debut.
In his time with the Jays, Castro surprised people. In his 14 appearances, he saved four games and struck out 12 in just 12.1 innings. Although he was eventually moved back into a traditional, middle relief role, Blue Jays fans - as well as other teams - took notice.
That ultimately ended up being the entirety of his Blue Jays career. A month into the season he was optioned to Triple-A and later in the year was included in the blockbuster trade with the Colorado Rockies that saw Troy Tulowitzki come to Toronto.

Although he has bounced around, finding homes with Baltimore, the Yankees, Mets, and Diamondbacks, he has been a workhorse and relatively consistent. That he made his debut at 20 years old and has appeared and been on a major league roster every year since his debut, is a testament to his a ability.
Castro is also known for being durable, having appeared in at least 60 games four times throughout his career, leading the majors with 75 in 2023. It was a year in which he also saved seven games.
While some might be turned off by his plus 4.00 career ERA, Castro is a guy who gets the job done.
The terms of the deal with Houston are non-specific but it is a minor-league contract that carries a base salary of $1.5MM if Castro makes the major league roster.
Jon Heyman of the New York Post was the first to report the deal.
