El Aguila de Veracruz of the Mexican League announced that they have signed outfielder Socrates Brito. His signing was announced alongside two others - fellow outfielder Nomar Mazara and pitcher Dinelson Lamet.

After debuting with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2015, Brito spent the next few seasons hovering between the major and minor leagues. He was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays in April 2018.
His time with the Blue Jays was brief, getting into only 17 games before being designated for assignment. In his month with Toronto, Brito hit just .077 with a .163 OBP with one triple and two RBIs. He spent the rest of the year in Triple-A and elected free agency at the end of the season.
Brito hasn't played a major league since his stint with the Blue Jays, though he did find success in Korea. A three year stint with the Kia Tigers of the KBO yielded two All-Star appearances and a 2024 Korean Series Championship.
In his final year with the team, he slashed 310/.359/.516. While those numbers are sure to boost his confidence, the KBO is also known as a very hitter-friendly league.
While Brito hoped to find his way to the majors on a minor league deal, nothing materialized prior to Spring Training. Instead, he'll head for sunny Veracruz and look to build off his successful Korean campaigns.
At 32, Brito still has time to make it back to the big leagues, but he'll need to have an awfully good season in Mexico for any team to seriously consider signing him.
Brito isn't the only former Blue Jays player on Aguilas roster. Others include former infielder Yangervis Solarte and Breyvic Valera and pitchers Max Castillo and Esmil Rogers. Former pitcher Esteban Loaiza also serves as the team's assistant pitching coach.
First established in 1937, El Aguila have six championships throughout their history.
