The Cleveland Guardians have announced that former Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Brandon League has joined their organization as a pitching coach for Triple-A Columbus.

League, who began his career with the Blue Jays in 2004, had an 11-year MLB tenure that included an All-Star selection in 2011 and several years as the closer for the Seattle Mariners.
Originally drafted by Toronto in the 2nd round of the 2001 draft, League made his MLB debut as a September call-up at the end of the 2004 season. After a breakout year in 2006, League was sidelined for most of 2007 due to injuries, partly caused by some questionable conditioning advice from the Blue Jays.
Following the 2009 season, he was traded to the Mariners for Brandon Morrow. League emerged as a reliable closer in Seattle, saving 52 games over 2.5 seasons, though his effectiveness began to wane toward the end of his time with the team. In 2011, he was named to his only All-Star game.
In mid-2012, League was traded to the Dodgers, where he finished his career. After stepping into the closer role when Kenley Jansen was injured, League struggled and ultimately was used in middle relief during his final season in 2014.
Since retiring as a player, League has focused on training programs for amateur players. His role with the Columbus Clippers marks his first professional coaching job.
For his career, League finished with a 27-35 record, a 3.65 ERA, and 74 saves.
