2025 Could Be the Breakout Year for CJ Van Eyk

CJ Van Eyk, the Blue Jays' No. 18 prospect heading into 2024, could finally be poised for a major league breakthrough in 2025.
The 26-year-old right-hander has battled inconsistency in the past, particularly after dealing with injuries in 2022. But his raw stuff remains undeniable, and if he can harness it, he has the potential to make an impact at the big league level.
Van Eyk offers the Blue Jays intriguing flexibility as both a starter and a bullpen option, providing valuable depth to their pitching staff.
While his 3-8 record and 5+ ERA for Double-A New Hampshire last season don't jump off the page, traditional stats like wins and earned runs matter less in today's game. With continued development, Van Eyk could easily find himself in Toronto by mid-season.
His K/9 rate of 7.4 was lower than his numbers from his time in the FCL, but it was a significant improvement over his 2023 Double-A performance. If he can elevate that strikeout rate even further, his stock will rise.
Van Eyk is likely to start the year in New Hampshire, but if he can improve his fastball control and refine his command, he could be on a fast track to Triple-A-and possibly even the majors.
If he continues to struggle however, it might be his last in the organization.
