Could the Toronto Blue Jays do the unthinkable and trade Vladimir Guerrero Jr.? If the New York Mets have anything to say about it, then the answer is yes.

Multiple outlets have reported that the Mets have checked in with the Blue Jays about Guerrero. Still, a trade seems highly unlikely.

No figures or players have been exchanged, and no deal has been proposed. SportsNet New York's Andy Martino has described the process as checking-in.

Mets All-Star first baseman Pete Alonso remains unsigned, and while the Jays have been tangentially connected to the Polar Bear, the Mets are also interested in bringing him back and Alonso has reportedly approached the Mets with an offer. Still, anything could happen and Steve Cohen likes to have options.

As MLB.com reported, the Mets have started to look at back-up options should Alonso sign elsewhere; it would appear that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is simply one of those options.

With a month to go before Spring Training - as well as the deadline for Vladdy's contract extension talks - it seems unlikely that the Blue Jays will move Guerrero. The offer would simply have to be enormous and blow the Blue Jays away. Though if any man could do it, it would be Steve Cohen.

Expect Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to open the season without a contract extension, but don't expect him to moved. At least, not yet.
