Even the most hardcore major league fans would be hard-pressed to remember the name Frank Frank Herrmann.

The former pitcher had a couple of cups of coffee with Cleveland and Philadelphia, before spending several seasons in Japan, including his final season in 2021 with the Chiba Lotte Marines.

When the Toronto Blue Jays started to increase their scouting focus on Asia, they hired Herrmann as a scout, on the basis of his familiarity and previous relationship with the NBP.

You see, Herrmann's final season was also the first for one Roki Sasaki

TSN's Scott Mitchell has been following the Blue Jays pursuit of Sasaki for quite some time, as was the first to point out the Herrmann-Sasaki connection.

Now, the extent to which Herrmann has been directly involved in the Sasaki talks remains unknown, but they did play together, and this is a connection that no other team has. Former Blue Jays starter Yusei Kikuchi has also been rumoured to have made a personal pitch to the Sasaki's team.

Ih Ross Atkins and the Blue Jays are successful in landing the coveted Japanese star, it could be a franchise-altering decision. Frank Herrmann would have had something to do with that.
