Buck Martinez weighs in on Blue Jays offseason
Buck Martinez knows a thing or two about the Blue Jays.
The long-time and beloved colour commentator for the Blue Jays has been a part of the organization in some form since the early 1980's. First he was a catcher, spending the last six years of a successful career with the Jays.
He then transitioned to broadcasting, being on TSN from 1987-2001.
After an uneventful stint as manager that the saw him leave the Jays organization and work for the Orioles, he rejoined the Jays booth in 2010 and has been there ever since.
Because of his long association with the team, he often appears on MLB Network and other national programs for his thoughts on the Jays.
While extolling the virtues of recently-acquired Andres Gimenez, even comparing him to Blue Jays Roberto Alomar, Martinez also acknowledged that the Blue Jays still have work to do.
He did say however, that he is not ready to close the book on the Blue Jays offseason which, in his mind, isn't over until the last day of spring training.
This is true for so many teams, as many transactions happen well into February and March.
There have been many high-profile moves that have happened on the eve of opening day, such as when the Atlanta Braves traded Craig Kimbrel to the San Diego Padres, less than 24 hours before the first pitch of the season.
With extension talks between the Blue Jays and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. heating up heating up as well the Blue Jays at least entertaining offers for Bo Bichette, Blue Jay fans could potential hear some seismic news during the holidays.
The Blue Jays 2025 season starts at home against the Baltimore Orioles on March 27th.
