Toronto Blue Jays insider Mike Wilner doesn't think club will sign Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Mike Wilner of the Toronto Star said on his "Foul Territory" podcast, that he thinks the Jays have really blown their opportunity with Guerrero Jr.

Guerrero Jr. has said that he is willing to stay in Toronto if the team will meet his asking price, and thus far, they haven't.

Only limited time may be available to close the gap that exists between the two sides, as Guerrero said that he has let the front office know that he will cease negotiations after the first full day of the Jays' Spring Training camp.

It is a bit of an unusual self-imposed deadline date, as most players set Opening Day as their unofficial endpoint for reaching an extension.

Obviously an extension can happen at any point before a player enters free agency, yet players generally prefer to keep focused only on baseball once the season begins, and thus contract talks are usually limited to the offseason.

Speaking on the popular "Foul Territory" Show on Friday, Wilner of the Toronto Star says he thinks that the Jays have missed their opportunity to sign Guerrero Jr. and that they have "blown it" with him.

Through his first six MLB seasons, Guerrero has hit .288/.363/.500 in 3540 PA, with 160 homers, and a 137 wRC+ and 17 fWAR.

Vladdy was supposed to be the face of the organization for years to come, and if Ross Atkins waits till seasons end it may be too late.

Watching Guerrero leave for nothing more than a compensatory draft pick would be devastating to the fanbase if it happens.
