The projection comes courtesy of OOPSY, which is a metric that was recently introduced by the folks over at FanGraphs. It's get a bit technical, but they do their best to break it down here.
The projected rankings are done using ERA+ as a barometer. With the Blue Jays sitting in 9th place, their ERA+ sits at right around 104.
And while no metric or projection or system is perfect, OOPSY attempts to summarize all the data in an effort to make evaluations of players that much easier.
While the Blue Jays have lost Jordan Romano, Dillon Tate, and Genesis Cabrera, they have brought back Yimi Garcia, acquired Nick Sandlin via trade, and added Hoffman. And they might not be done. If they end up adding a middle reliever or follow through with their plan to shift Yariel Rodriguez to the bullpen, their ranking could rise even more before the start of 2025.
For all the talk on the Jays inability to add a power bat or front-line starter this offseason, they have done a great job at addressing their most pressing need.
This is a positive step forward for 2025.
