Blue Jays fans are getting antsy for the next big move, while other teams are lessening the options around them.
Sunday saw two major deals, neither of which particularly affect the Blue Jays, but will no doubt increasingly raging about the lack of action.
First, the Philadelphia Phillies acquired Jesus Lazardo from the Marlins in exchange for a couple of minor league prospects. Lazardo figures to be a mid-rotation kind of guy.
While the Blue Jays didn't make any moves, with more and more pieces coming off the board, there is a possibility that something major could happen before the new year.
Speaking of possibilities, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. appeared on a Spanish Language sports podcast and was asked about the ongoing contract talks with the Blue Jays. While both want to get something done, it seems they are a bit far apart at the moment. If the Jays can get to between $450-500 and offer less money in exchange for more years, then a deal might get done. As long as it is before spring training starts. Once the season starts, the negotiations end.
In other minor news, the Chicago Cubs signed for Blue Jays catching prospect Carlos Perez to a minor league deal , the A's signed former Jays third baseman Gio Urshela to a big league contract, as well as pitcher Ben Bowden to a minors deal.
Finally, first baseman and outfielder Wil Myers closed the book on his 11 year playing career. The former Rookie of the Year and one-time All-Star played for the Rays, Padres, and Reds, and finishes with 156 HRs, 533 RBIs, and an OPS+ of 106. Congrats on a great career Wil.
Christmas is coming. While that doesn't necessarily mean things will be quiet, Jays fan might need to hang on to their patience a little longer.
