The Toronto Blue Jays have finally put forth an offer for Baltimore Orioles free agent Anthony Santander.

According to reports from spanish MLB insider Hector Gomez and Daniel Barrera, the Blue Jays have offered Anthony Santander a four-year $82 Million contract.

A few weeks ago it was was reported by Jon Heyman of the New York Post that Santander was looking for a five-year deal.

If the four-year deal is what Santander and his representation decide to take from the Blue Jays, it would keep him in Toronto until his 34-year-old season.

That'd be good business for the Blue Jays although Toronto would lose a draft pick as compensation for signing the 30-year old Venezuelan.

The Blue Jays are coming off a disappointing 74-88 season.

They face the prospect of losing first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and shortstop Bo Bichette to free agency in a year.

Taking advantage of of this small window in Toronto is understandably a priority, and the outfield was a primary culprit of the Blue Jays' struggles in 2024.

Davis Schneider, Daulton Varsho and George Springer each recorded an OPS of .700 or lower last season.

Signing Santander could allow the Jays to move Schneider into a utility role, while also offering Vladimir Guerrero Jr some protection in the starting lineup.

It would also deprive the division rival Orioles of one of their top hitters.

Santander has 155 home runs and 435 RBIs over the last eight seasons, all with the Baltimore Orioles.

As it has been for the past couple of seasons, getting a middle-of-the-order bat is still a need for the Blue Jays, but Ross Atkins has missed out on several players this winter despite having plenty of reported interest.
