In an effort to clear salary, the redbirds are putting the third baseman and his ten gold gloves on the market. That doesn't mean they will accept for him though.
Earlier this week it was reported that Arenado, who has a full no-trade clause, nixed a deal that would have sent to the Houston Astros.
Now, it has come out that earlier in the offseason, the Yankees made a play for Arenado as well. And they offered up a former Blue Jay as trade bait.
Whereas, Arenado has veto power and stopped the deal with Houston, the deal with New York was stopped by St. Louis. Allegedly they never even brought it to the third baseman's attention since they had no interest in acquiring the two-time All-Star pitcher.
Stroman, an All-Star with both the Blue Jays and the Mets, went 10-9 with a 4.31 ERA during the 2024 season.
While Arenado had a down year in 2024, he still hit 16 home runs to go along with 71 RBIs and a 101 OPS+.
The likely future Hall Of Famer is an eight time All-Star and won 10 consecutive Gold Gloves between 2013-2022.
It is still unknown where Arenado will land for 2025 and whether he will waive his no-trade clause. The Cardinals, who have also been fielding calls about Arenado has veto power and stopped the deal with Houston, are determined to move him.
It is also unclear how actively the Yankees are shopping Stroman, but he could be good trade bait for the Yankees to acquire a corner infielder.
