For most professional baseball players, the offseason is a time to spend with family, prepare for the upcoming season, and potentially find out if they'll have the same employer come April.

But for prospects striving to make it to the big leagues, the offseason often takes them to the deserts of Arizona.

Such was the case for Blue Jays prospects T.J. Brock, Ryan Jennings, Eddinson Paulino, and Peyton Williams, who spent time showcasing their talents at the Arizona Fall League (AFL).

What makes the Fall League unique compared to other offseason activities is that players are invited, not signed. While any player within an organization is eligible, most AFL participants come from the lower levels of the minor leagues. Brock, Paulino, and Jennings have all spent time at Double-A, and Paulino-primarily a second baseman and third baseman-could be big league-ready in a couple of years. Williams, a highly regarded first baseman, reached High-A Vancouver last year.

Though all four are considered low-to-mid-level prospects, being selected for the Fall League carries a certain prestige, with roughly two-thirds of AFL participants eventually making it to the majors.

For someone like Brock, a pitcher who missed much of the 2024 season due to injury, the AFL is a chance to represent the Blue Jays in a positive light while also getting valuable reps ahead of the 2025 season.

For Paulino, participating in the Fall League offers an extra boost of confidence and reinforces his belief in his abilities.

Beyond showcasing physical talent, the AFL also provides prospects an opportunity to learn what it means to be a teammate. As Jennings, a right-handed pitcher, puts it, there's something special about experiencing the grind together. For him, one memorable moment was watching Williams hit a 450-foot home run.

Whether or not these four prospects make it to the big leagues-whether with the Blue Jays or another team-remains to be seen. But one thing is certain: Brock, Jennings, Paulino, and Williams will always share the bond of these memories. Friendships forged in sports can last a lifetime, and that, in itself, is something special.
