With the Blue Jays high on rookie Will Wagner, and with Gimenez having the ability to play short, many were of the opinion that trading Bo would be the best thing for all involved.
After all, he is a free agent after this season.
According to Blue Jays beat Keegan Matheson however, the Blue Jays plan on sticking with Bo and his flow and short in 2025; he has not heard anything to the contrary.
The Blue Jays sticking with Bichette makes sense too.
After an injury-riddled 2024, his value has decreased and the Blue Jays don't want to sell low on a player like Bo.
And while the conversations and rhetoric about whether or not the Blue Jays will re-sign Bo or whether he even wants to stay a Blue Jay, haven't reached the same level of fervour as Vladdy, it is something that both the Jays and Bichette's camp are talking about.
Bo Bichette only played in 81 games last year.
While his numbers were ugly and very un-Bo-like (.225. avg, .277. OBP. -0.3 WAR) there is no reason to believe that he won't have a bounce back year and the Blue Jays are confident that the two-time All-Star can find his stroke.
Now, this isn't to say that if Bo is fully healthy he will play every single inning at short. Ernie Clement may see some time there, and possibly Leo Jimenez if he isn't traded..
But if Bo is able to stay with it, the Blue Jays will play him as much as they can.
Bo, like Vladimir Guerrero Jr., is a free agent after the 2025 season. Andres Gimenez is under contract until 2029.
While it's possible that Gimenez could shift to short if Bo does end up departing, the end of the 2025 season is a still a year away and a lot can happen in that time.
Only time will tell.
