As was earlier reported on during the Winter Meetings, Garcia signed a two year, $15 000 000 with the club.
Garcia, who previously pitched for the Blue Jays from 2022-2024, was sent to the Mariners just before the trade deadline last season, in a deal that brought outfielder Jonatan Clase and catcher Jacob Sharp to the Blue Jays
Less than a month after being acquired, Garcia went on the IL with a shoulder injury that prematurely ended his season. The Jays believe his shoulder is fully healthy.
Last year with the club, Garcia went 3-0 with a 2.70 ERA and five saves in 29 games.
To make room for Garcia on the 40 man roster, catcher Nick Raposo was designated for assignment. The Blue Jays now have seven days to trade, release, or outright him to the minors.
Raposo represented the Blue Jays catching depth on the 40 man roster, behind the major league duo of Alejandro Kirk and Tyler Heineman.
Sharp, the catcher acquired as part of the Garcia trade last July, reached High A Vancouver last year and is likely a year or two away from the Major Leagues.
Raposo appeared in 20 games for the Buffalo Bisons last year after the Blue Jays claimed him off waiver from the St. Louis Cardinals.
During his brief stint in AAA, Raposo hit .246. with one home run and five RBI's.
Like with so many DFA deals, it is possible that the Blue Jays re-sign Raposo to a minor league deal and stash him in the minors. He could also be included as part of a trade.
