Just hours after signing Tim Mayza to a major league contract, the Pittsburgh Pirates have reunited with Ryan Borucki, inking him to a minor league deal.

First reported by MLB insider Jon Heyman and Pirates beat reporter Alex Stumpf, the deal includes an invitation to spring training and is worth $1.5 million if Borucki makes the major league roster.
Borucki, who pitched parts of five seasons for the Blue Jays, has spent the past two years with Pittsburgh. He found immediate success upon joining the Pirates in 2023, going 4-0 with a 2.45 ERA over 38 games (including two starts). However, in 2024, his appearances were limited to just 14 games, as he spent most of the year on the injured list due to carpal tunnel syndrome.
This move could potentially reunite Borucki with Mayza, his former Blue Jays teammate from 2018-2022.
Originally a starter for Toronto, Borucki made 17 appearances out of the rotation in 2018, posting a 4-6 record with a 3.87 ERA in his rookie season. He missed most of 2019 due to injuries but became a key member of the Blue Jays bullpen in the following years before being traded to the Mariners in June 2022.
Borucki had a solid half-season in Seattle, going 2-0 with a 4.26 ERA in 21 games. However, his 2024 season was a challenging one, as he dealt with triceps inflammation before being diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome. He missed a significant portion of the year but returned in September to pitch 10 more games for the Pirates down the stretch.
For his career, Borucki holds a 14-9 record with a 4.23 ERA in 148 games.
