The San Francisco Giants have signed utility infielder Jake Lamb to a minor league contract.
The deal, first reported by MLB Insider Jon Heyman, includes an invitation to Spring Training and carries a base salary of $1 million should Lamb make the major league roster.
Lamb broke into the majors in 2014 with the Arizona Diamondbacks, where he spent the first seven years of his career and earned his first-and only-All-Star selection in 2017.
Since being released by Arizona at the end of 2020, Lamb has bounced around, averaging about two teams per season. His stops have included the Athletics, White Sox, Blue Jays, Mariners, and Angels.
Lamb was with the Blue Jays for a brief period in 2022. Claimed off waivers by Toronto in early September, he appeared in 12 games, hitting just .129, but did manage to slug one home run while making 10 appearances at third base. He was released at the end of the season.
In 2024, Lamb spent the entire year in Triple-A as a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. Over two separate stints, he posted a slash line of .264/.350/.393 with seven home runs.
Once primarily a third baseman, Lamb has transitioned to playing mostly first base, DH, and occasionally the outfield in recent seasons.
For his career, Lamb has a .235/.326/.427 slash line with 96 home runs and 342 RBIs across 10 seasons. His best year came in 2017, when he slugged 30 home runs.
