The Texas Rangers have signed right handed pitcher Jesse Chavez to a minor league contract. The deal includes an invite to spring training.

If he makes the team, it will be the 41-year old's 18th season in the major league. Chavez made his debut in 2008 with the Pittsburgh Pirates and has suited for eight other teams.
This marks his third go-round for the team that originally drafted him back in 2002. He has had also four separate stints with Atlanta, three with the Los Angeles Angels, and two each with the Cubs and Blue Jays, as well as the Royals, Athletics, Dodgers, and Pirates.
Chavez first came to the Blue Jays in 2012, after they claimed him off waivers from the Royals in 2011. In his first stint with the bluebirds he went 1-1 with an 8.44 in nine games (two starts) and 27 strikeouts in 21.1 innings.
He was traded for cash to the Athletics, where he spent the next three seasons. His years with Oakland were arguably the best of his career as he went 17-27 with a 3.86 ERA in 101 games that included 47 starts and two saves. In June of 2013, he pitched 5.1 innings of shutout relief against the Yankees, earning the win in a game that lasted 18 innings.
In 2016, the A's traded him back to the Blue Jays for future All-Star closer Liam Hendriks. His second time in Toronto was much more successful, as he went 1-2 with a 4.57 ERA in 39 games out of the bullpen.
He was also front and centre in an infamous game against the Rangers in May of that year. After Jose Bautista, who was intentionally hit by reliever Matt Bush, aggressively slid into Rougned Odor, igniting a bench-clearing brawl, Chavezretaliated by plunking 1st baseman Prince Fielder. He was ultimately suspended three games.
Chavez also holds a unique MLB record. He is the most traded player in history, having been dealt 11 times over the course of his career.
