The New York Mets and Pete Alonso are far apart in contract negotiations.

Alonso, understandably enough, wants something well into the nine-figure range, befitting his status as one of the game's premier power hitters.

The rest of the league, however, disagrees, and the result has been a weeks-long stalemate and a considerable gap between Alonso's asking price and what other teams are willing to offer.

As everybody knows the Metropolitans landed Juan Soto to a 15 year $765 million contract this off season, then earlier this week the they made a very quiet, non-publicized contract offer to Teoscar Hernandez.

With their latest under the radar offer to Hernandez the New York Mets may be pivoting from Alonso.

It appears the Mets are looking at the Polar Bear as an option rather than a priority, which would bode well for other teams looking for his services.

According to the New York Post's Jon Heyman, who appeared on MLB Network on Saturday, the Blue Jays are one of several teams in the mix on Alonso.

Anthony Santander is seen as the front-runner by numerous sources to end up in Toronto, however at this point, Blue Jay fans would be happy with either (or both) considering this off-season the Blue Jays have had thus far.

Pete Alonso is a consistent source of power, where you can almost pencil him in for 40 home runs and 100 RBIs each year.

The 30-year-old slashed .240/.329/.459, hit 34 home runs in 695 plate appearances with the New York Mets in 2024.

Overall, he finished with a 2.1 fWAR and a 122 wRC+, down from the 46 home runs he hit in 2023.

Those numbers were less than we've come to expect for the Polar Bear, but some big moments in October surely made up for his relatively lackluster regular season.

If Ross Atkins can pull off adding around 40 home runs in the lineup that would be a nice addition for the Jays.

If Atkins can get Alonso and Santander, that wouldn't solve all of the Blue Jays problems, but it would be a great start.

It may even endear him back to the fanbase who wants to run him out of town at this point.
