With all the offseason focus on the pursuit of free agents and the contract talks with Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo's impending free agency has gotten lost amongst all the noise.
Bichette poses a bit of a conundrum for the Blue Jays. Certainly they would like to keep him alongside VladJr. for years to come, but there hasn't been the same sense of urgency on either side to get a deal done.
It is possible that Bo is waiting to see what happens with Vlad, a decision he would be wise to make.
But even more so than Vladdy, Bo needs to (re) prove his worth after his 2024 season was largely lost to injury. If he can have a great bounce back season, he'll be in for a huge payday, if not, he might find the offers few and far between.
There's also the question of whether Bo wants to remain a Blue Jay. Two years ago, the answer to that question would have undeniably been a yes. Now, no one is quite sure.
While the Blue Jays aren't actively shopping their All-Star shortstop, they are listening to offers. There have been conflicting reports about whether or not Bo
expects to traded.
Still, it feels less loyalty on Bo's part than there on the side of Vladimir Guerrero Jr..
Plus, with the dearth of middle infielders currently on the Blue Jays rosters, the team could more easily whether the departure up the middle than at first base.
Still, that doesn't mean the team doesn't want him to stay. It's just that Vladimir Guerrero Jr.. has to be priority number one.
If the front office can get Vlad locked up before the spring training deadline, then perhaps Bo follows suit. If not, look for him to test the waters of free agency after the 2025 season.
