It didn't start out that way for the primary care physician of the Toronto Blue Jays, but after he was approached by TayTay's team to serve as her primary care medical doctor during her shows in Toronto as part of her Eras Tour, Lawrence jumped at the chance to work with the global megastar. Besides, he sees a lot of parallels in working with high-performance athletes and elite artists and performers.
While his primary role was that of a facilitator, he provided on-call medical care services for Swift and members of her team and entourage, including any children that may have been traveling with the group, he says the dynamic was very similar to that of many sports teams, a lot of moving parts and bodies that have to stay fit.
Artists, much like athletes, have highly controlled images, so it's no wonder they often turn to sports doctors to help keep the physical part of their routine run as smoothly as possible while they prance about a stage for three hours a night.
What does that entail for the world's biggest pop star? As Lawrence puts it «to ensure readiness and a rapid return to performance»;;
this includes both physical and mental challenges, aches and pains, and general wear-and-tear that comes with a gruelling tour.
And while working with Swift was a far cry from his usual jobs as the Jays' physician and medical director at the David L. MacIntosh Sport Medicine Clinic in Toronto, Lawrence thoroughly enjoyed the experience and was blown away by TayTay's dedication, kindness, and ability to perform for three straight hours. He calls himself a fan for life.
Maybe he and Taylor Gausman can exchange friendship bracelets now. Regardless, it will definitely be an experience that Lawrence will never forget.
