The twice-drafted right-hander recently held a showcase for interested teams, according to Houston baseball insider Ari Alexander.
Beede, now 31, was selected 21st overall by the Blue Jays in 2011. However, he chose to forgo a $2.5 million signing bonus and instead attended Vanderbilt University. He was the only first-round pick that year not to sign.
Three years later, he was drafted in the first round again, this time 14th overall, by the San Francisco Giants.
It's always a risky decision for a high school draft pick not to sign, and in Beede's case, it may have backfired.
While Beede finally made his MLB debut in 2018-four years after being drafted by the Giants and seven years after the Blue Jays selected him-his first season did not go well. He went 0-1 with an 8.22 ERA in two starts.
In 2019, his first full season, he posted a 5-10 record with a 5.08 ERA.
Injuries and Tommy John surgery limited him to just one inning over the next two seasons.
Back to full health, he appeared in six games for the Giants in 2022 before being DFA'd. He was later picked up by the Pirates but struggled to a 5.23 ERA in 25 games.
After a somewhat successful season in Japan, Beede's time with the Guardians in 2024 was also challenging.
Both the Houston Astros and Kansas City Royals were reported to have attended his workout, though it's unclear if other teams were present. Beede looked good overall as his fastball sat between 93-95mph.
In 71 career games, including 29 starts, Beede holds an 8-16 record with a 5.55 ERA.
