The former All-Star has started appearing on Jays Central, and always speaks fondly of the city and its people.
Recently, he took to X asking fans recommendations for things to do in Mississauga with his young daughters. They love to ice skate as mentioned by Romero in a post in which he states his excitement in packing up their blades.
He also loves the usual Canadian winter past times of curling, sledding, and anything snow related.
But this holiday season, he expressed a desire to see something else. A creature so elusive and yet so very, very Canadian. So Canadian is it, that it is one of the symbols used in Canoku - a Canadian emoji game based off Sudoku. A creature so legendary and revered that it is the stuff myths are made of. I am talking of course of the great Canadian moose.
Romero posted about his desire to see the famed Alces alces on social media.
Moose are iconic creatures within Canadian culture. The world's largest, tallest, and heaviest species of deer, as well as North America's tallest land animal, Canada's history is filled with moose being stuck in fences or causing car accidents. Very few things are as Canadian as the moose. It's as much a part of our national identity as poutine, maple syrup, and Tim Horton's. The iconic stature of these dewlap-encrusted giants knows no bounds.
While Romero is doubtful to spot one in Mississauga or the GTA, if he and the kids are brave enough to venture out into the snowy wasteland that is Northern Ontario or even into the rural areas of western Quebec, he might have more luck. Or he can just go to Algonquin Provincial Park.
Here's hoping he gets his Christmas wish.
