The Tampa Bay Rays have joined in the action in what is turning out to be a quite a busy Monday. And it's 10:30 on the west coast.
After it was reported that the Rangers signed Joc Pederson, and both Patrick Sandoval and Walker Buehler now find themselves members of Red Sox Nation, the Tampa Bay Rays announced that they signed outfield Eloy Jimenez to a minor league deal.
Jimenez spent the first five and half seasons of his career with the Chicago White Sox before being traded to the Orioles midway through the last year.
Jimenez had a down year last year with only six home runs and 23 RBIs in 98 games.
For his career, Jimenez has a .269/.318/.462 slash line with 95 home runs, 298 RBIs, and a 113 OPS+.
While Jimenez hasn't been a name connected to the Blue Jays this offseason, his profile as an left fielder/DH with some power could have fit nicely on the roster, though the Blue Jays do have similar player profiles and who left handed - which they need more of - rather than right.
It is still only December. It is still relatively early in the day. Just because big moves are happening doesn't mean the Blue Jays aren't planning something major beyond their acquisition of Gimenez. They may also choose to stand pat until spring training.
The holiday season is always an interesting time for the baseball world and this season is no different.
The Blue Jays kick off their 2025 season with on March 27th against the Orioles.
