While many analysts predict that
Guerrero's deal will fall somewhere between $450 million and $500 million, Mike Axisa of CBS Sports has suggested it could reach as high as $700 million.
Two years ago, this would have seemed unthinkable. But with the recent contracts of Shohei Ohtani and Juan Soto, it's clear that player salaries are continuing to rise.
Spotrac currently values
Guerrero at $38 million. If the
Blue Jays were to offer him a 12-year contract at that valuation, it would total $456 million-right in line with his rumoured asking price.
However, if
Vlad performs at the level he did in 2021 or the second half of 2024, his value could increase significantly. A $450 million deal over ten years would put his annual worth at $45 million.
If the contract were extended by five years, that would push the total value to $700 million.
Bottom line: While it's unlikely, it's not out of the question.
Regardless of the final number, if the Blue Jays do secure an extension with
Guerrero, it will undoubtedly be the largest contract in franchise history.
MLB insider and Z101 Digital reporter Hector Gomez has claimed that the two sides are close to an agreement, with the contract likely to start with a «four.»
While
Blue Jays fans are eager for a deal before Spring Training begins, it may benefit both sides to wait and see how the 2025 season unfolds.
Either way,
Guerrero is in line for a massive raise.
