While much of the focus has been on the marquee signings of Anthony Santander and Jeff Hoffman, the Jays have also been busy on the international front.
As was earlier reported, the Jays reached an agreement with International Free Agent shortstop Christopher Polanco, as well as Juan Sanchez, Elaineiker Coronado, Kennew Blanco, and Alexander Valiente. But that was just the beginning.
The Blue Jays have now 22 international free agents. Initially having agreements with nine players, the Blue Jays acquired an extra $2MM in bonus pool money in a trade with the Cleveland Guardians. That money went a long way and allowed them to reel in a few more players.
While the majority of the youngsters come from the Dominican Republic and Venezuela, the list also includes three Mexicans, and one player each from Panama, Colombia, Netherlands, and Cuba.
While the biggest bonuses went to Polanco and Sanchez, the Blue Jays only signed four infielders. Their biggest haul was in pitching, taking in six right handers and three lefties. They also signed five catchers to go along with four outfielders.
None of the players are expected to make an impact anytime soon, with Polanco being at least five or six years away, but the IFA period is always an exciting time for teams.
With the IFA period likely finished for the Blue Jays, they can turn their attention back to adding big leaguers.
