One name that's surfaced recently in connection with the Jays is Houston Astros closer Ryan Pressly. The two-time All-Star was a focal point earlier in the offseason, but the buzz eventually died down as the team shifted its attention elsewhere. Now, however, the rumours are starting to gain traction again.
The Blue Jays, along with the Chicago clubs, are said to be interested in Pressly's services. However, the reliever holds 10-and-5 rights, meaning he's spent at least 10 years in the Major Leagues, with the last five years on the same team. As a result, he has a full no-trade clause.
While many players with no-trade clauses are open to waiving them, Pressly-who is from Dallas-has indicated that he's reluctant to approve a trade that would take him too far east or west. This could make a move to Toronto less likely.
Although Pressly would be a solid addition to the back end of the bullpen alongside Hoffman, the Jays might be better served by targeting another left-handed pitcher to complement middle reliever Brendon Little.
For his career, Pressly is 35-36 with a 3.27 ERA and 112 saves.
