Well this certainly makes things interesting!

After it came out that the New York Mets expect Pete Alonso to play elsewhere in 2025, multiple reports indicate that the Blue Jays have expressed interest in the Polar Bear.

As many point out however, the Blue Jays focus remains on extending Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and a Pete Alonso signing seems unlikely.

Yesterday it was reported that the Mets had asked about Guerrero in what was termed a plan B option for the team. And while it is possible that Vladdy could slide back over to third base in the event that Alonso comes north, everything about this reeks of speculation and leverage on the part of the Mets.

Also, while the Blue Jays have been connected to virtually everybody this offseason, a hookup with Alonso feels like the wrong play. With Alonso at first and Vladdy at third, that displaces Ernie Clement and makes playing time for difficult for a guy like Will Wagner, whom the Jays are trying to get more playing time for. The franchise certainly has the money though.

It could also be a case that maybe Alonso takes a shorter-term deal. At any rate, this will be an interesting storyline to follow.
