Remember the name Sean Keys.

The young third baseman, 24th on the Blue Jays prospect charts, was recently named by MLB Pipeline as the Blue Jays prospect to watch heading into the 2025 season.

Selected in the 4th round (125th overall) in the 2024 draft, the 21 year old out of Bucknell University in Pennsylvania, drew the attention of many due his strong Sophomore season in college.

In 2023, Keys slashed 385/.422/.769 in 10 Cape Cod League games, and followed that up in his junior year going 405/.535/.798 along with 13 homers en route to winning Patriot League Player of the Year honours.

There were some questions about his power, but the lefty bat has put those rumours to rest. Much like Alan Roden, he is an analytics darling who possesses a great eye at the plate, and has a low swing-and-miss rate.

Although Keys played third base in college, his big frame seems unsuited to the hot corner long term. He seems more destined for the other side of the diamond at first base, but he was a player the Blue Jays selected on the basis of his bat, and not necessarily his fielding.

At just 21, Keys is still a few years away from the show, but him ending up in Double-A New Hampshire by season's end is not out of the question.

The Blue Jays have been looking for ways to increase their offence in recent years. With guys like Keys and Peyton Williams, both of whom can crush baseballs, the future may be in good hands.
