The San Diego Padres are reportedly shopping starting pitcher Michael King, and some reporters have suggested the Toronto Blue Jays could be a good trading partner.

On paper, the deal makes sense. The Blue Jays are looking to add a mid-tier starter to their rotation and have assets to deal from, while the Padres are reportedly looking to shed payroll. Additionally, San Diego GM A.J. Preller is known for his creativity when it comes to these types of moves.
The question is whether the Blue Jays have the right pieces.
Given Preller's tendency to prioritize prospects, the Padres may ask for Trey Yesavage, the Blue Jays' top-100 prospect, to be included in any deal. That could be a tough sell for GM Ross Atkins. While Yesavage is still a few years away from being big league-ready, the Blue Jays' pitching depth in the minors is thin, and they may be reluctant to trade away a key piece from such a fragile area.
While there are major league options like Davis Schneider, Leo Jimenez, Will Wagner, and Joey Loperfido, they might not meet the Padres' specific needs.
The Blue Jays could also explore a different route by inquiring about Dylan Cease, King's rotation mate, whom the Padres are also reportedly open to trading.
While any scenario remains purely hypothetical at this stage, a trade between these two teams is far from inconceivable.
