If the Toronto Blue Jays still want to enhance their rotation this offseason, perhaps Ross Atkins should give Mariners GM Justin Hollander a call.

The Blue Jays could use an extra starter, while the Mariners need an infielder. The Mariners are open to shopping one of their starters, while Toronto has too many second basemen. It's a match made in baseball heaven.

One Mariners pitcher that has been recently been mentioned is Luis Castillo

The three time All-Star is a durable strikeout machine, with 1331 Ks in 1230 innings. He has also started at least 25 games every year from 2018 onward - not counting 2020 - and under 30 games only once in that span.

If the Blue Jays were to pursue Castillo who would they give up? The most logical choices would be Leo Jimenez or Davis Schneider. Perhaps they could even go down into their minor league system and look at someone like Josh Kasevich. With Bo Bichettecoming back and Andres Gimeneznow the everyday man at second, both Jimenez and Schneider are expendable. While it wouldn't be one-for-one swap and would most likely be paired with some lower-level minor leaguers, Jimenez would be the centrepiece.

Now, while nothing has been talked about been talked about in terms of a potential swap, MLB Trade Rumours does have the Blue Jays as the best fit for Castillo, should the Mariners want to pull the trigger.

Both teams have pieces that fit each others needs, which is what a good old-fashioned baseball trade should be.

The question is, will it happen?
