The Blue Jays are a team that's being linked with pretty much every notable free agent right now, but Scott makes a ton of sense for them.
Toronto had a 4.82 bullpen ERA last season, the second-worst mark in baseball.
Jordan Romano was non-tendered and left to sign with the Philadelphia Phillies which raised a lot of questions about the closing role in an otherwise beleaguered bullpen.
Whether it's a closer or a top setup man, the Blue Jays just need to add quality arms to repair the back end of their bullpen.
With the Padres, Scott posted a 1.75 ERA with a 2.92 FIP across 72 innings while striking out 84 batters. Opponents hit just .175 against Scott.
The left-hander did post a rather poor 12.2% walk rate, but was still able to generate a 1.13 WHIP. Outside of the free passes, these are all excellent numbers.
Scott has been one of the most successful relievers in baseball over the past two seasons with the Marlins and Padres. He posted a 2.04 ERA with a 2.53 FIP across 146 games.
An addition of Scott would be an excellent upgrade for Toronto and would slide into the closer role.
Toronto has just one left-handed reliever in the bullpen at the moment in Brendon Little, so adding a high-leverage lefty like Scott would fill a major hole.
This move would push Chad Green into the setup role with Yimi Garcia, the clubs biggest signing so far this winter.
The Bleacher Report predicted a three-year, $45 million contract for Scott, which would be extremely affordable for Toronto.
So far the Blue Jays have spent very little this offseason, the bullpen would be a good place to start.
The Blue Jays still need some offense, but adding Tanner Scott would be a great start and a step in the right direction.
