Hands up if you had Blue Jays pitcher slagging off the commissioner of Major League Baseball on social media on Tuesday morning. Raise your hand again if said that pitcher was Kevin Gausman.

It's not even noon yet in the west.

Gausman, the friendly, outgoing Blue Jays who is seen as an all-around nice guy, whose social media posts starring his wife and kids always give everybody the feels and totes emotes, posted on X this morning taking a jab at MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred

Manfred, who is not exactly well-liked by fans or players, is used to criticism and feedback. The fact that a player called him out online is nothing. The fact that it was Kevin Gausman is a little surprising.

When he is not murdering opposing hitters with his cutter, Gausman is putting on his influencer cap, posting selfies from college football games, country music shows and Taylor Swift concerts. He also may the coolest wife out of any player on the team.

He is a generally cool and nice dude.

The Blue Jays even turned to him during Pride Week after the Anthony Bass debacle.

And yet, here was Gausman on Tuesday morning, clapping back at Manfred's marketing plan for the majors.

In his video, the commissioner talks how any public effort to put more fans in seats has to start with the starting pitcher. Nobody is seen more during a game than a starter. Manfred also goes on to say that because of this, he would not be instituting an innings limit for pitchers, something that was talked about in the past..

«It's just too blunt an instrument to fix this problem».

Enter Kevin Gausman. The Blue Jays ace fired back, quipping

«don't believe anything this man says. Get ready for 6 innings you get to keep the DH, if not a fan hits in their spot».

Which is objectively quite funny.

This is not the first time Manfred has courted controversy.

During the pandemic he introduced the infamous aautomatic runner in extra innings rule. Then earlier this year, he toyed with the idea of a golden bat rule, one that got an overwhelmingly negative reception.

Manfred has yet to respond to Gausman's snipes, and probably. But it was a fun thing to wake up to.
