It may be the offseason, but Jose Berrios continues to shine.

The Blue Jays 'La Makina' teamed up with his brother-in-law, Tigers star Javier Baez, to host El Dream Home Run Derby and Celebrity Softball Game for the second time.

The charity event was held at Estadio Roberto Clemente Walker.

While Baez was unable to play due to injury, Berrios made a pitching appearance as helped Team Makina defeat Baez' Team El Mago 14-13 in a game which featured a walk off grand slam by Baltimore Orioles third baseman Emmanuel Rivera.

Other players featured included Jorge Polanco, Edwin Diaz, Francisco Lindor, Carlos Beltran, Enrique Hernandez and Carlos Gomez. Latin music superstar Daddy Yankee was seen in the crowd of over 5000 fans.

The event, which was sold out, supported two charities close to the hearts of Berrios and Baez, La Fundaćion Makina and El Mago Foundation . Berrios' La Fundaćion Makina focuses on helping kids achieve their dreams through sport and education while Baez' El Mago Foundation helps people and patients with Spina Bifida, a condition from his which his sister Noely suffered. She died in 2015 at the age of 21.

In addition to the walk off heroics, there was excitement during the home run derby, which featured a dramatic final showdown between Rivera and Jurickson Profar. The slugfest ended up going to a swing-off which was ultimately won by Profar after he swatted two dingers in the final round.

Said Berrios of the event

«I'm super thankful for the help and the support from my teammates, family and everyone who came out. I feel really proud and thankful. It's the second time we've had it. There's a lot of happiness and adrenaline from the competition. At the end of the day, it's for a great cause. It's for the kids, families and to keep creating opportunities for others.» - Jose Berrios

Last year, the duo raised over $1 million. No word yet on this year's finally tally.

Regardless, Berrios will do this for as long as he is able to.

«We've always had people and family members who needed a hand. We're always ready to help and support people in need.» - Jose Berrios
