With Toronto selecting 8th in this year's MLB draft, along with the recent release of the top draft prospects on MLB.com, BlueJaysCentral.com is going to begin looking at potential options for the Blue Jays in 2025.

SS/3B - Ethan Holliday

The name Holliday is one that most baseball fans are now very familiar with after watching family patriarch Matt ply his trade with 4 teams over a spectacular 14-year career in the big leagues. Along with his son, Jackson, who was drafted 1st overall during the 2022 draft by the Baltimore Orioles, making his pro debut this past season.

Ethan could very well make baseball history if he ends up being the first brother of a #1 pick to also go 1st overall. This is obviously a very talented family with phenomenal pedigree.

It would also be a path that the Blue Jays have taken before, most recently by drafting Cavan Biggio and Bo Bichette (not to forget signing Vladimir Guerrero Jr. as an international free agent as a 16-year-old). The proper pedigree can go a long way in determining a positive direction in terms of prospect capital.

Holliday is a 17-year-old senior who currently attends Stillwater High School in Oklahoma who stars as a Shortstop and 3rd baseman with a current commitment to Oklahoma State University. He is a left-handed bat who features the ability to hit to all fields with the potential to barrel the baseball resulting in a projectible power profile, similar to his dad.

For his age, he has a mature frame at 6'4» and 195 lbs, which assuredly will continue to fill out as he gets older. Defensively, Ethan moves well on the left side of the infield showcasing his athletic build coupled with a reliable glove and accurate arm.

It may be wishful thinking for Jays fans hoping that Ethan Holliday will one day pull on the powder-blue due to the miniscule possibility that he falls to the Jays at number 8. The most likely possibility is that he ends patrolling the hot corner for many years to come with the Washington Nationals, who will select at the top of the draft in July.
