T.J. Brock, the 39th overall prospect in the Blue Jays system, underwent Tommy John surgery and is now out for the entire 2025 season. TSN's Scott Mitchell was the first to report the story.
While he wasn't flashy, Brock had some success in Double-A New Hampshire and was an option to help the Blue Jays out of the bullpen in 2025. Instead, he will spend the season rehabbing his arm.
The 6th round draft pick out of Ohio State in 2022, Brock was beset by injuries in 2024, throwing just 11.1 innings across Rookie League, Low-A Dunedin, and Double-A New Hampshire. For his minor league career, he is 8-1 with a 4.24 ERA, 14 saves and 129 strikeouts in 76.1 innings.
Brock is the third Blue Jays minor leaguer to undergo Tommy John surgery in the past 12 months, along with top prospects Brandon Barriera and Ricky Tiedemann. Former ace Alek Manoah also underwent a hybrid procedure in August.
Brock's injury is another blow to the Blue Jays pitching depth, which was already stretched thin.
While the franchise is well-known throughout the league for their superior development of pitchers, especially at their Florida complex, they have also had a long history of conditioning issues.
The last truly successful homegrown pitchers were Marcus Stroman and Aaron Sanchez. The Blue Jays have tried to replicate that success with Nate Pearson and then Manoah, but the results have been mixed.
Brock should be fully recovered by the start of 2026.
